The UTG for the Island of Usedom
Germany’s favourite Baltic Sea island is Usedom! The sunny island of Usedom has significantly more guests per inhabitant or bed than its larger island neighbour – as shown by the current statistics.
The statistics from 2009 have just been published. With 4,198,906 commercial overnight stays and a marginal growth of 0.2 % in comparison to last year, the 4 million overnight-stay-threshold was surpassed for the third year on the trot.
2009’s capacity utilisation for beds on offer grew to 44.8 % (2008 = 44.1%), whilst the maximum number of beds was reduced in the last 13 months (2008 to 2009 minus 392 beds, or minus 1.3 %). Usedom is therefore still leader in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. In comparison Rügen/Hiddensee had a capacity utilisation of 39.2 %, the Mecklenburgische Ostseeküste 43.8 % and the state average was 40.8 %.
Noticeable: The number of beds on Usedom in December 2009 sunk by 3.1 % in comparison to the year before with 22.862 beds on offer (79 % of the total capacity). Whilst the overnight stays from foreign visitors sunk on a small scale by 6.3 %, the number of overnight stays by Swiss guests rose – thanks to the direct flight connection – by 18.4 % to 9,418 commercial overnight stays. 63 % of the Swiss guests that arrived by plane and filled-in an UTG questionnaire, said that they would not travel to the island of Usedom for holiday reasons with any other mode of transport. 35 % of the overnight stays from international guests were made by Swiss guests.
(if not indicated clearly, all figures come from the State Office of Statistics for Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, as of Feb. 2010)
We would now like to introduce you to the work of the Usedom Tourismus GmbH.
